He was nervous, a little apprehensive. He wondered if the small amount of Tovex he had placed inside the doll was too large. He had to be close, but not too close. Too close meant he would be killed as well. But he thought, if that happened, so be it.
He stepped onto the escalator as he elbowed the satchel around to his back. At the same time, his other hand slid over his front left pocket, furtively feeling for the single car key. He found it and pressed the unlock button. He never heard the explosion.
He was at the top of the escalator when he regained consciousness. His forehead was bleeding from striking a step when he fell. Blood was coagulating on the floor plate where his head lay. He rolled over and let his arms flop to the floor. His head was pounding.
